Seattle Storm Clinches Victory in WNBA Finals Against Chicago Sky: July 7, 2024

Sunday’s 84-71 victory over Chicago was led by Nneka Ogwumike, who finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Angel Reese of the Sky set a new record for the most consecutive double-double games in the WNBA.

Jewell Loyd ended with 20 points, despite only scoring two points on 0-for-5 shooting in the first half. For Seattle (14–7), Skylar Diggins-Smith finished with 15 points, 8 assists, and Ezi Magbegor with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

For Chicago (8-12), Reese ended with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 steals—her 13th straight double-double. In the Sky’s 88-84 victory over Seattle on Friday, the rookie equaled Candace Parker for the longest double-double run in league history with 27 points and 10 rebounds, matching her season high.

With 2:49 remaining, Reese scored two baskets in a succession, and Chennedy Carter completed an 11-2 run that cut the Sky’s deficit to 72-69 with two free throws each. After making two free throws in response, Jordan Horston found Magbegor for a layup, setting off a 12-point run that saw Loyd’s layup with 33.2 seconds left increase the Storm’s advantage to 84-69.

Marina Mabrey contributed 14 points and six assists, while Carter led the Sky with 21 points. Kamilla Cardoso, a rookie, finished with eight rebounds, four blocks, and six points.

In the first seven minutes, the Sky had four blocks, two of which came from Cardoso, as Seattle opened the game with a 1-of-15 shooting effort and Chicago quickly took a 12-3 lead.
